Erin's Law Information

In 2013, Illinois passed Erin’s Law (House Bill 6193), which requires all schools to provide age-appropriate lessons on sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention for students in Pre-K through 12th grade. These lessons are designed to help children learn how to stay safe and protect themselves.

Victor Pacini, author, motivational speaker and founder of Childhood Victories, will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. The Childhood Victories’ program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of this presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:

• Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches,
• Safety rules at home and school
• Saying “NO”
• Safe/Unsafe Secrets
• It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
• Telling a trusted adult

Childhood Victories speakers will be presenting at our schools. The dates for the student presentations at Stenson is on Monday, October 6, 2025.

We will be hosting a parent informational evening with Childhood Victories to preview the information that will be shared with the students and answer any questions. The parent
event will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 6pm- virtually.

Social Emotional Universal Screener

District 68 uses a universal screener called Satchel Pulse to help us monitor and improve social-emotional learning for all of our students. This universal screening involves students rating their self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship, and responsible decision-making skills. The student responses help us to determine how best to support our students.

Our goals in utilizing Universal Screening are to:
  • gather information from teachers and students to get a fuller picture of current social-emotional strengths or needs
  • utilize a high-quality, reliable, research-based tool to measure social-emotional outcomes
  • and utilize the universal screening data to monitor student growth in social-emotional domains.

Students in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade will use pictures to answer questions about their feelings. Students in Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade will identify how they feel through words.

The information that is received from the screening will be reviewed by a team of school staff to identify areas of strength and areas where we can best support students, if necessary. Our social worker or your child’s teacher will contact you to work together before any additional supports begin at school, if needed.

The universal screening will take place in the classroom between Monday, September 29 and Friday, October 17th.

If you do NOT wish for your child to participate in the universal screener, please notify your child’s teacher by email before Thursday, September 25th.

If you have questions please contact Dr. Huemmer, rhuemmer@skokie68.org or our school social worker, Kiah Hoff, mhoff@skokie68.org.
